Sudha and Pandit
Patil
Narmada Winery owners Sudha and Pandit Patil came
to the United States more than 41 years ago to pursue
higher education opportunities. Pandit is a mechanical
engineer, who formerly worked for the federal government.
Sudha is an endodontist (root canal specialist) practicing
in Culpeper, VA.
They have been living in Virginia for more than 30 years
now and are finally realizing their dream. With the possibility
of retirement approaching Sudha and Pandit wanted to invest
in something that was enjoyable and would last for many
years to come. |
In 1999 they purchased the land and began planting several
different grape varietals. Today Narmada’s rolling
landscape in the beautiful Blue Ridge foothills is blanketed
prospering vines and flourishing fruit.
Pandit worked on the farm in India with his parents before
coming to America. He developed a fundamental understanding
of soil requirements, fertilizers and equipment for farming.
Pandit oversees the fruit production and handles most
of the regulatory and financial matters for the winery.
Sudha holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and
has always had a passion for wine. She has been working
closely with their winemaker and is excited to learn everything
there is to know about the process.
Family and community are very important to Sudha and Pandit
and they are delighted to be able to share their dream
with the ones they love. |

Tom Payette
Tom Payette, a premier hands on and analytical
winemaking consultant, serves clients throughout the United
States and Internationally. His company focuses on winery
and vineyard start-ups and expansions, still and sparkling
wine production and general winery issues.
He has 26 years of experience in still and sparkling wine
production in Virginia along with 3 years experience in
ultra-premium Bordeaux varietal wine production in Napa,
California. |
Tom studied under famed Bordeaux enologist Jacques Boissenot.
In addition to winemaking, Mr. Payette is a noted speaker,
recognized International wine judge and Wine Tech columnist
for Vineyard & Winery Management Magazine.
Mr. Payette is a member of the ASEV/ASEV-ES, The American
Wine Society, The American Vineyard Foundation Review
Board and serves on the advisory board to Wineries Unlimited,
the East Coast’s premier and largest wine industry
trade show and seminar event.
He is a past member of the Governor's appointed Virginia
Winegrowers Advisory Board where he served as technical
committee chair. Vineyard & Winery Management magazine
named Tom "Winemaker of the Year" in 1999. |
